The Department for Protection of War Veterans and the Disabled at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy stated today that the reconstruction of a memorial charnel house in Medjedija, Romania, was completed on March 12.
The statement adds that the restoration and conservation project was carried out by a team of experts from the Serbian Office for the Protection of Monuments of Culture, while the Romanian embassy in Belgrade also took part in the project.
The memorial charnel house is situated at the city cemetery in Medjedija, near Constanta, and it is dedicated to soldiers of the First Serbian Volunteer Division who were killed during the famous battle for Dobrudza in 1916. The charnel house was built from marble in 1926 in the shape of a pyramid.
It was renovated during the winter of 2006/2007 with funds provided by the Department for Protection of War Veterans and the Disabled at the Serbian Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy, concludes the statement.
