The statement adds that the Declaration was accepted by Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine. All of these countries are members of one or both conventions for the protection of the Danube and of the Black Sea.
The meeting aimed at providing political protection to efforts to improve water quality in the Danube basin and pointed to the necessity of cooperation between the Black Sea region and Danube countries.
The improvement of political awareness in countries members of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) is considered the most important result of the meeting. The aim is to compose a plan by 2009 regarding the management of the Danube basin, as well as to encourage national efforts in this sector.
At the Bucharest meeting, Serbia's representative will be coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Predrag Bubalo and Director of the Serbian Water Directorate and Head of the Serbian delegation to the ICPDR Nikola Marjanovic.
