The strategy tackles the phenomenon of decreasing birth rate, which has lasted for a few decades now and is the main cause of depopulation and people growing old.
Eminent experts led by director of the Institute of Social Sciences Mirjana Rasevic participated in the drafting of this strategy.
At the presentation of the strategy in the Narodni Front gynecology and obstetrics clinic in Belgrade, Lalovic said that Serbia needs a birth rate of 2.1%, up from the present 1.6%.
He said that mothers with three and four children will receive 40% of average salary in Serbia until their children come of legal age regardless of their regular income.
According to the Minister, the aim is to enlarge the number of families with three and four children as only in that way Serbia can move forward and stop the population reduction trend.
Serbia is now among ten oldest societies in the world, where each sixth citizen is older than 65, Lalovic said and warned that there is a threat that in a few years’ time one-third of the population becomes older than 65.
Lalovic said that this strategy stipulates engagement of all ministries and formation of a National council for population policy as well as setting up a special fund for additional means.
