A computer programme expected to improve apothecary services was presented today at the Matej Ivanovic pharmacy in Belgrade. As part of an information technologies pilot project launched in 2002, the system will be introduced in twenty pharmacies and laboratories in Belgrade. This application software was designed as part of a project of the Serbian Ministry of Health named "Improving computer-communication system of the Belgrade Apothecary Institution". The project is being implemented with the assistance of the Norwegian government.

The new, unique information system, is designed to provide accurate information on the stock of medicines in pharmacies, quicker procurement of medicines, better access to patient-related information and improvement of the quality of work and efficiency of the entire pharmaceutical sector, it was said at the promotion of the programme organised for pharmacy directors at the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Speaking at the promotion, Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic said that the Serbian Ministry of Health will own the software and will distribute it free of charge to pharmacies in Serbia following the completion of the pilot project at the Belgrade Apothecary Institution.
Norwegian Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Hans Ola Urstad said that the primary goal of the project is to improve the position of patients and secure more efficient work of pharmacies, adding that the donors' goal is to expand the programme to all pharmacies in Serbia.
