Head of the Consular Affairs Directorate at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Branko Radosevic said that the Serbian government today presented a counter draft of the readmission agreement to the European Commission in Brussels, which contains certain changes in relation to a proposal presented by the Commission in early December.
Radosevic told the Tanjug news agency that the European Commission described today's talks between Belgrade and Brussels as very useful and added that on the basis of proposals made by the Serbian delegation it will make a consolidated version of the agreement which it will present at the upcoming round of negotiations on visa relaxations and readmission that will be held in Belgrade from January 17 to 19.
He recalled that during the first round of negotiations, on December 4, the European Commission presented its standard agreement proposal which it submitted to other Western Balkan countries as well, and that today Belgrade presented a counter draft on the basis of 12 bilateral agreements concluded so far.
The readmission agreement, that should create conditions for Serbian citizens who are illegally residing in the European Union to be returned to Serbia, is a condition for signing a visa relaxations agreement.
