Opening the seminar, State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Defence Zvonko Obradovic pointed to the importance of cooperation between the Serbian army and the Ohio National Guard, and the aid offered by the US in reform processes in the Serbian defence system.
Obradovic recalled that the SPP is being implemented on the basis of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) signed by Serbian President Boris Tadic and US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice at the beginning of September in Washington.
The two-day seminar is being realised by a delegation of the Ohio National Guard, which is being led by Assistant Adjutant General for Army Brigadier General Matthew Kambic in a four-day visit to Serbia.
Kambic expressed conviction that the seminar, in whose framework representatives of the Ohio National Guard, the Serbian army and the Ministry of Defence will exchange experience, will be successful.
According to Kambic, the aim of the seminar is to present ways in which the Guard cooperates with civil authorities in providing disaster relief.
Head of the office for bilateral cooperation at the US embassy in Belgrade Lieutenant Ron Hill said today that within the SPP ten Serbian officers will visit Ohio in December.
According to Hill, the first group of five officers will get to know how the air force base is organised, while the other group of five Serbian officers will learn about the organisation of structures within the Ohio National Guard.
