The Ministry statement says that Curcic, who is leading the Serbian delegation at the conference being held in Antalya, Turkey, stressed that Serbia as a member of the ITU, considers that that international organisation must support Serbia with impartiality in realising the rights mentioned in Kosovo-Metohija, which is an integral part of Serbian territory in accordance with UN SC Resolution 1244.
She pointed to the fact that legal mobile telephony operators in Serbia, which have been issued a license by the organs in charge of the Republic of Serbia, are being treated as illegal operators by the interim institutions of Kosovo-Metohija, and their telecommunication links were suspended many times by force thus far.
She said that as this conference takes place the interim administration of Kosovo-Metohija have suspended telecommunication links on the territory of the province for the third time.
According to Curcic, certain Serb enclaves have been deprived of any communication whatsoever with the outside world in the 21st century, they are unable to make emergency telephone calls, and considering the physical isolation and impossibility of safe movement, they are living in isolation and a ghetto of its own kind.
She recalled that in January this year, while the temperature was 15 degrees below freezing, Serbian population did not have electricity and was threatened by a humanitarian crisis.
Curcic stressed at the conference that in past years Serbia achieved great progress through adopting modern regulations, development of infrastructure and liberalisation of the telecommunications market.
According to Curcic, by adopting the Strategy of development of the information society and the Strategy of development of telecommunication the Serbian government has shown its commitment to realising the aims of the World Summit on the Information Society and respect of the ITU Constitution, which recognises the sovereign right of every country to regulate its own telecommunication.
Approximately 2000 delegates from 162 countries which are members of the ITU are participating in the conference in Antalya.
