This agreement stems from the obligation of Bulgaria, which is to become an EU member, to harmonise its visa regime towards neigbouring countries with that of other EU countries.
According to this agreement, Bulgarian citizens can enter and stay in Serbia without visas up to 90 days within six months from their first entry.
Citizens of Serbia, with a valid travel document, can enter Bulgaria with a visa issued by the Bulgarian embassies. The visas shall be issued for free, to a longer period of time.
Holders of diplomatic and official passports of the two countries will be exempt from the obligation of obtaining a visa, Serbian citizens who are members of marine crews, civil air crews, as well as members of rescue teams in case of accidents and natural disasters, according to a list of staff submitted via consular routes.
The agreement will be applied temporarily as of January 1, 2007, and it will come into force with the implementation of internal procedures envisaged by national legislation of the two countries.
