Minister of Mining and Energy in a caretaker capacity Dubravka Đedović Handanović today visited Vranjska Banja, where the first pipes for the future Serbia–North Macedonia natural gas pipeline have arrived and welding has commenced.
Đedović Handanović noted that pipes have arrived for the first 20 kilometres of the pipeline, and that the total length of the pipeline within Serbian territory will be 147 kilometres.
A total of €153 million will be invested in the construction of the pipeline, including all associated facilities, with the annual capacity planned at 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas, she specified.
The pipeline will connect Serbia to new routes that are significant for the region’s energy future, she explained, emphasising that the value of the project lies not only in the additional capacity but also in the fact that Serbia will no longer be dependent on a single supply route.
The new gas interconnection is scheduled for completion in 2028, both within the territory of Serbia and in the territory of North Macedonia.
