Tadic told a press conference following the meeting that significant progress was made in today's meeting on the question of visa relaxation, adding that results are expected very soon.
Rehn said that this is a first important step towards liberalisation of the visa regime for Serbian citizens and the first step towards putting Serbia on the white Schengen list. He announced that the Council of the EU will adopt a mandate for negotiations on visa relaxations for Serbia within ten days.
Tadic and Rehn talked today on continuation of negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
The Serbian President pointed to the fact that these negotiations are of exceptional importance for Serbia, and expressed the hope that they will be resumed before the end of this year.
We know very well that the condition for resumption of negotiations is completion of cooperation with The Hague and the handing over of Ratko Mladic, and that is the first priority because without solving that problem Serbia has no European future, stressed Tadic.
Rehn reiterated that the EU remains firm in its position that Serbia has a European future, and expressed conviction that the present Serbian government is and any future democratic government in Serbia will be fully committed to completing cooperation with The Hague successfully.
