Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović said today, at the Nuclear Energy Summit 2026, that in the upcoming era of electricity, Serbia wants to be part of the nuclear renaissance that is taking place in the world through partnerships, new technologies and sustainable development.

Đedović Handanović is participating in the meeting organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and France
The Minister stated that we need more electricity for the development of our economy, new technologies, artificial intelligence, and this means that we also need a nuclear power plant by 2040 in order to achieve our goals and support economic growth and development.
We are now in phase 1 of the development of the nuclear energy programme, in accordance with IAEA guidelines. Serbia is at a crossroads where decisions are being made that will shape our energy sector in the coming decades, and our investment plans until 2030 and 2035 foresee nuclear energy as one of the pillars of the development of our energy sector, said Đedović Handanović.
The Minister pointed out that the goal is to complete phase 1 by mid-2027, which means that we have all the information necessary to make an informed decision on the nuclear energy programme.
