Stankovic explained that getting the status of country-observer allows Serbia to participate in peace missions, educate its staff abroad and to organise joint military exercises with other SEDM countries.
The SEDM comprises 11 countries, seven of which are NATO members, namely the United States, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria whilst Croatia, Albania, Ukraine and Macedonia are member-countries of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme.
The initiative for establishing SEDM is aimed at strengthening defence and security cooperation in the region as well as supporting other countries of the region to join Euroatlantic integration.
