Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović announced today that Hungary’s MOL and Russia’s Gazprom Neft have reached an agreement on the key provisions of the future sale and purchase agreement for oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), which will be submitted to the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for a decision.

Đedović Handanović noted that, in these negotiations, Serbia has succeeded in improving its position compared to 2008, when the state held less than 30% ownership.
She emphasised that an agreement has been reached for Serbia to gain a further 5% of NIS in the future, thereby attaining a number of shares that will enable greater decision-making rights in the Shareholders’ Assembly, primarily with a view to protecting the interests of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia.
Regarding partners from the United Arab Emirates, the Minister noted that they are also expected to be part of the future sale and purchase agreement, stressing that the final deadline for concluding negotiations on the agreement is 24 March.
Đedović Handanović underlined that it is of particular importance that MOL has committed not to close the Pančevo Refinery, and to maintain the previous level of production and increase it in line with needs.
