Newly-appointed magistrates take oath of office

Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic was present at the City Hall today when 52 newly-appointed municipal court judges and magistrates were sworn in.

Stojkovic said that these judges and magistrates are the last ones to take their oath before him since a new law will come into force on January 1, 2007, according to which the oath will be taken before the parliament speaker instead of the justice minister.
He said he is pleased that thanks to the new law, Serbia, as a modern country, will get magistrate courts that will protect citizens' rights in a better and more efficient way, adding that the judiciary is much better now than it was when he first took office.
