The prices of goods went up by 0.7%, while the prices of services increased 0.8%, the statement said and added that compared to December 2005 retail prices in August 2006 rose by 6.3%.
The average cost of living this August compared to July increased by 0.3%, whereas against December 2005, it increased 5.3%.
The discrepancy between the increase in the index of retail prices and the cost of living index was due to different impacts of growth in prices for individual items on the overall index.
The prices of agricultural products fell by 6.2%. The prices of vegetables and fruit are customary for this season, whereas the price of eggs went down slightly and the price of fish increased a little.
The costs of industrial foodstuffs went up by 0.7% on average, in which sector an insignificant variation of prices was observed.
The prices of beverages in August went up by 0.9%.
Tobacco prices remained the same in comparison with the previous month.
The prices of non-food industrial products increased by 1.2% on average. This was mostly due to increased prices of oil products, coal, medicines and school books, whereas the prices of other products did not see a significant increase.
The prices of services increased by 0.8% on average.
