Serbian government officials have said that former Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic is not hiding in Serbia, stressing that they do not know how to prove it to the international community, the Beta news agency reported.
It is hard to prove that someone is not hiding in a country, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica told reporters, adding that Serbia-Montenegro must establish “some sort of confidence” and “two-way” cooperation with the Hague tribunal and other countries.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus, the international community’s demand that Ratko Mladic be handed over to the Hague tribunal represents the major obstacle to Serbia’s integration into European institutions.
Labus said that police and the judiciary are still establishing whether Mladic is in Serbia, adding that they have no information to confirm his presence in the country so far.
Mladic is not in Serbia, the Deputy Prime Minister said. If relevant bodies establish the opposite, they will make their findings public, he added.
