President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić pointed out the importance of respecting the fundamental principles and rules of the United Nations, primarily the UN Charter, in his address to the session of the UN General Assembly today.
Addressing the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Vučić emphasised that respecting the UN Charter is not a matter of choice, but an obligation of all countries, adding that the principles and rules apply to both large and small states and to all political powers.
He stated that Serbia continues to commit to the constant implementation of international norms, regardless of the fact that it is not treated fairly.
Serbia has repeatedly committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states, the fundamental approach, the charter and principles. Therefore, we also expect all states to respect our sovereignty and integrity, which most of them do and I am grateful to them for that, Vučić emphasised.
The President of the Republic warned that Serbs in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija live in dramatic circumstances and are denied their basic human rights every day.
Vučić stated that Serbia calls on the international community to take concrete measures to stop the violence and to ensure the security and rights of all peoples in Kosovo and Metohija.
He reiterated that Kosovo is an inseparable part of Serbia, the main pillar of its identity, culture and spiritual heritage, emphasising that, regardless of the constant and open violations of Resolution 1244, our country still believes in dialogue under the auspices of the European Union.
The President of the Republic stated that the world is facing major geopolitical divisions, and that the UN Charter is the only framework that can hold us together, offering Belgrade to be a place of dialogue for all conflicts around the world.
Vučić said that he was honoured to be able to address the jubilee session on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, on behalf of Serbia, which is a founding country of the UN, a country that respects freedom and is proud of its history.
This year, we are marking eight decades of the existence of the world organisation, and during that period, the UN has been a framework for dialogue, cooperation and solidarity among nations, without which it would not be possible to respond to the challenges of today, he said, adding that only through joint efforts can we create a future that will be dignified and secure.
