Draskovic said at a press conference that this agreement is an important step forward on Serbia's road to EU integration because one more bridge for Serbia's communication with Italy has been built. He voiced hope that other EU countries will follow in Italy's footsteps.
He said that the Agreement, which will become effective in September, introduces visa relaxations for many categories of citizens: students, scientists, researchers, cultural and public workers, businessmen, sports, folklore and other organisations, and for people who go to Italy for medical treatment.
The Minister explained that for most of the categories visas will be issued for a one-year period under simplified procedure and will be free of charge, while businessmen and scientists will get visas for a five-year period.
Italian Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Famiano Crucianelli said that the signing of the Agreement on visa relaxations is a proof of Italy's wish for Serbia to join the EU mechanisms. With this move, Italy wants to help Serbia on its road to EU integration.
Crucianelli said that the Agreement is very important in the field of politics because it is an act of political friendship towards Serbia, an act that can open the door to the EU to Serbia.
He voiced hope that other EU countries will follow in Italy's footsteps.
