Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today strongly condemned the riots in Belgrade, Novi Sad and in several other cities across Serbia, as well as the attacks on the police and the destruction of public and private property.
Prime Minister Macut emphasised that such behaviour constitutes a direct attack on the state.
According to him, there were no peaceful protests taking place on the streets, but rather a gathering of hooligans whose goal is to disrupt public order and peace.
When you attack the police, you attack the state, Prime Minister Macut said, adding that we must not allow those who have been responsibly and dedicatedly protecting the safety of citizens for months to be insulted and humiliated.
This behaviour deserves every condemnation, the Prime Minister emphasised.
The state will react decisively and in accordance with the law, and anyone who violates it in any way will be held accountable, the Prime Minister said.
I call on the other side to calm down and stop violent actions, because the competent authorities will react in accordance with their powers, Macut stressed.
Prime Minister Macut praised the composure, professionalism and sacrifice of all members of the Ministry of the Interior, who, despite provocations, acted in the interests of citizens and the protection of public order and peace.
