Macut said that containing and extinguishing the fires is an absolute priority for all relevant state bodies and that the foremost objective is to protect the lives and health of citizens and their property.
He pointed out that situations like these show how important it is to have a strong, well-equipped and organised system that can respond quickly, adding that the state will continue to invest in the personnel, equipment and capacities of the Emergency Situations Sector because protecting people’s lives, property and natural resources is an absolute priority.
The Prime Minister said that he had seen first-hand the situation on the ground and the consequences of the fire in Deliblato Sands, noting that firefighting efforts are being further complicated by strong winds, the area’s specific vegetation and the sandy terrain.
According to him, plans are being made for the revitalisation of this area once the fire is completely extinguished, and the line authorities have already begun that work.
Dačić said that there were no human casualties in the fire, nor was there any damage to buildings or citizens’ property, but that a vast area of Deliblato Sands was affected, making the environmental consequences extremely serious.
The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that any form of negligence that could cause a fire is absolutely unacceptable.
