Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović participated today in an informal meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community in Athens, where accelerated integration with the European Union (EU) market in the electricity sector was discussed.

Speaking at the meeting at which accelerating decarbonisation through the start of the implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) was also discussed, Đedović Handanović emphasised Serbia's commitment to implementing reforms and aligning with the EU acquis.
According to her, we are now the first in the region to have fulfilled the conditions for integration with the EU market, which has also been recognised today by the European Commission.
Đedović Handanović announced that the final decree will be adopted by the government in the coming weeks, which will allow Serbia to fulfil its obligations under the Reform Agenda as part of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, and complete the regulatory processes necessary for integration with the EU market.
We believe that the carbon tax should be introduced gradually, in phases and fairly, with the support of funds from the European Union, she added.
The Minister recalled that EU member states have had more than two decades to gradually adapt to the introduction of carbon taxes, concluding that Serbia is ready to continue harmonising with EU legislation and policies in the field of energy and climate.
