The 26th anniversary of the Battle of Košare was marked tonight at the National Theatre in Belgrade, and the commemoration was also attended by Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc.
Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski spoke at the commemoration and underlined that the names of the heroes who died at Košare still resonate today as beacons of freedom.
The Battle of Košare, one of the most difficult battles in recent history, in which 108 soldiers died, took place from 9 April to 14 June 1999 and together with the Battle of Paštrik, it stopped the NATO offensive against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as well as the offensive of the terrorist KLA.
The commemoration, organised by the Serbian government’s Committee for fostering the traditions of Serbia’s liberation wars, was attended by Serbian government ministers, soldiers, battle participants, members of their families, families of the victims, veterans associations, judicial and executive authorities, Republika Srpska, the Serbian Army and the Serbian Orthodox Church.
