Mali pointed out that the start of the practical implementation of SEPA in Serbia is expected in May 2026, and added that this is one of the first concrete results of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, which aims to accelerate economic convergence with the EU and strengthen regional cooperation.
He explained that thanks to becoming part of SEPA, Serbian citizens will be able to carry out payment transactions in euros with SEPA member countries, including all members of the European Union, much more efficiently, swiftly and with lower costs.
According to him, this achievement formally confirms Serbia’s compliance with all relevant EU regulations in the field of payment transactions and further strengthens the country’s commitment to the European path.
Serbia’s long-standing readiness for SEPA membership is now being realised through concrete benefits for citizens, businesses and financial institutions, Mali pointed out.
With this membership, Serbia will enable more efficient, safer and cheaper execution of payment transactions in euros with SEPA members, under the same conditions that apply within the EU, the First Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
