Tanja Miscevic
Speaking at the inauguration of the first session of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) of Serbia-Montenegro, Miscevic said that the young should learn to express themselves and argue their positions in order to communicate the idea of European integration and its values to their peers and ordinary citizens.
She pledged major technical and financial support for the next session of the EYP of Serbia-Montenegro by the EU Integration Office and other governmental institutions.
According to Miscevic, at sessions to be held in the future, apart from the youth of Belgrade, the participation of young people from provincial Serbia should also be secured, since all of Serbia is to become a part of the EU, and not just Belgrade.
The session of the EYP of Serbia-Montenegro was also attended by guests from Italy, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Croatia. Participants discussed the regional ties of countries in the Balkans, EU accession, the “brain drain” from Serbia, racial and ethnic intolerance and other current themes.
One of the aims of the session was also to form a delegation that will represent Serbia at the international autumn session of the EYP in Kiev, and the spring session of 2007 in Potsdam.
The EYP is a non-governmental organisation, based in Berlin and has national committees in more than 30 countries, which gather secondary school students at an international level, simulating the work of the European Parliament.
