Ilic recalled that Serbian parliament adopted laws that will remove difficulties, above all red tape, and accelerate the process of investment realisation. He stressed that the presence of Israeli companies in Serbia is felt more and more, especially in housing construction, telecommunications and water supply sectors.
According to Ilic, high technologies, telecommunications and electronics which Israeli firms doing business in Serbia have, will contribute to the overall improvement of the economy.
Highlighting that the Agreement on investment protection, signed by Israel and Serbia-Montenegro, will pass to the level of the Serbian government, Ilic called on Israeli investors to invest in big projects which the Serbian government will launch in road infrastructure, privatisation of telecommunications, reconstruction of airports and railways.
Israeli Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Yaffa Ben-Ari said that Serbia has great potential in the fields of infrastructure and telecommunications, in which Israel has invested the most so far.
She said that last year the total value of trade exchange between Israel and Serbia-Montenegro was $30.6 million, of which Israel exported to Serbia-Montenegro $16.1 million and imported goods worth $14.5 million.
Since the formation of the Israeli business forum three years ago, the number of Israeli firms that do business in Serbia-Montenegro has increased from 16 to 80, Ben-Ari said and added that those companies estimate that in the upcoming period it will be possible to invest up to $500 million in Serbia.
