Commemorations marking 90 years since the disembarkment of the Serbian army in Bizerta, Tunisia, and the recovery of Serb soldiers from the World War One have been marked near the commemorative mausoleum in Bizerta and at the Serbian military cemetery in Menzel-Bourguiba.
On behalf of the Serbian government, wreaths and flowers were laid by Ambassador of Serbia-Montenegro in Tunis Milorad Jovanovic, Serbian Assistant Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Bozidar Simatkovic and a delegation of the Association of Ancestors of Serb Warriors before 1920.
Simatkovic said that more than 3,000 Serb soldiers and civilians died in this area and stressed that it is our duty and responsibility to dwell on the memory of them.
The Serbian delegation will also attend the military cemetery in Algeria, where several thousands of Serb soldiers died in the World War One.
