Speaking at a press conference held following a meeting with representatives of the Nis Clinical Centre, Karanovic said the Ministry will compete for a loan from the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) with this concept, and it is expected that the rest of the funds will be provided from the National Investment Fund.
According to Karanovic, the new building should link the current accommodation capacity of the clinical centre with the building constructed in the 1970s as the emergency centre, and currently it is partly occupied by a monoblock.
Karanovic specified that the total investment would stand at €35 million, of which €25 million should be secured as a loan from the EAR, and €10 million from privatisation proceeds or from the National Investment Fund.
She recalled that the EAR plans to invest some €100 million in the Serbian health sector during a period of three years, of which €25 million is planned for Nis.
The deadline for the construction of this facility is 2011, and it should be according to the highest European standards, said Karanovic, and explained that in the ground-floor of the building a complete diagnostics system would be located, and the upper floors of the new building and the building of the emergency centre will be for in-patients. Therefore the new facility will provide two thirds of the total accommodation capacity of the Nis Clinical Centre.
Director of the Nis Clinical Centre Slobodan Trenkic said that the general design of the project for the construction of the new building will be presented to EU and EAR representatives on June 2 in Belgrade.
