Preservation of youth health as priority of every society

Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic opened today a three-day regional conference Vanguard 2006, aimed at informing the young from Southeast Europe on the reduction of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.
Milosavljevic said that one of the most important tasks of every society is to fight to preserve the health of young people, adding that the government and active NGOs should jointly work on it.
UNDP deputy standing representative to Serbia-Montenegro Rastislav Vrbensky stressed that drug abuse among the young has the proportions of a pandemic, knows no borders and demands a global response.
This is why Vanguard's activities are so important, since the project initiates various preventive activities in the Southeast European region, he said.
More than 300 representatives of local, regional and international institutions are taking part in the conference, which is being held at the National Library of Serbia, Centre for Cultural Decontamination, Slavija Hotel and Serbia's Public Health Institute.
