Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Aleksandar Todorovic said today that the draft law on agriculture is a result of three years’ work of this Ministry on trying to establish direct subsidising system for farmers.
Todorovic said at the 73rd international agriculture fair in Novi Sad that this draft law regulates goals and mechanisms of implementation of agriculture policy with five forms of state subsidies.
Assistant Minister of Agriculture Ziva Zebeljan said that the highlights of the draft law are registration of agricultural households, formation of the agriculture payment administration and the possibility of forming an agriculture chamber.
According to Zebeljan, there are over 250,000 agricultural households and their registration is currently regulated in the government’s decree.
Zebeljan added that formation of the agriculture payment administration will upgrade the agriculture payment system, which is precondition for harmonising the agriculture sector with EU regulations.
He also stressed that an agriculture chamber is a necessity for farmers so that they could have equal terms as industry and trade sectors.
