Head of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija Sanda Raskovic-Ivic said today in talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui that authorities in Belgrade are against any hasty solutions for Kosovo-Metohija.
Raskovic-Ivic said that the international negotiations team headed by Martti Ahtisaari is trying to bring a hasty decision not based on compromise. She added that such haste cannot lead to a good solution and stated it would be better to proceed in phases, in order to reach a decision acceptable to both sides.
She warned that the independence of Kosovo-Metohija could destabilise the entire region, and pointed out that the attitude of the Albanians is “not suitable” for good neighbourly and interstate relations.
Zhang Yesui said that Beijing respects the sovereignty of Serbia-Montenegro and has a full understanding of the current situation of the state union.
Advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Simic said at the meeting with the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister that recognising the independence of Kosovo-Metohija would mean that all decisions connected to the borders of the former Yugoslavia could be put in question.
Raskovic-Ivic and Simic reiterated Belgrade’s position that it will never accept the separation of Kosovo-Metohija from Serbia, and added that they expect international military forces will be present in the southern province for a few more decades.
