Dimitrijevic presented a tourism development strategy at the Belgrade fair today and pointed out that time is ripe for strong internal marketing and serious personnel changes in domestic tourism.
According to him, Serbia can be compared with Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria as far as tourism is concerned.
He noted that the aim of the strategy is to triple the number of overnight stays in hotels from six million to 20 million a year as well as to increase the number of rooms in Serbia’s tourist offer to 80,000.
He added that what Serbian tourism needs is more luxury hotels and better tourism management as well as to attract international hotel chains.
Serbia has four tourist areas, namely Vojvodina, Belgrade, Southwestern and Southeastern Serbia, Dimitrijevic specified and said that the Serbian government will adopt an investment plan €50 million in the tourism sector this year, along with €10 million in incentives.
He said that the strategy will focus on low-cost offers for the younger population in its initial stage.
