Joint diplomatic missions with Hungary symbol of partnership

Belgrade/Thessaloniki, 26 January 2026

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić, together with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, officially opened the Consular Office of Hungary under the system of collocation of diplomatic and consular missions at the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Thessaloniki today.

Đurić emphasised that this joint step is being taken at a time when the world appears increasingly uncertain, noting that partners and friends whom one can trust and rely on are more important than ever in such circumstances.

The Minister assessed that the historic reconciliation with Hungary has matured into a strategic partnership that is vibrant and dynamic, stressing that it is maintained not only by declarations, but by daily cooperation, political coordination and a common understanding that our national interests are best protected when we work together, not separately.

Szijjártó assessed that this is a very innovative and distinctive way of establishing a diplomatic mission, adding that this is the fifth time that Hungary has made such a decision jointly with Serbia.

He added that the joint functioning of diplomatic missions is the clearest proof of the highest possible level of mutual trust between the two countries.
