Following talks with Chief Prosecutor of the Hague tribunal Carla del Ponte, Rehn said that he was informed by her on the progress in cooperation between Serbia-Montenegro and the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia, “which is testimony to the convincing possibility that concrete results can be achieved in the upcoming weeks.”
Rehn said on that basis he has decided that a new round of negotiations on the SAA between Serbia-Montenegro and the European Union be held next week.
He said that the European Commission will continue to monitor results realised by authorities in Belgrade so that “cooperation with the Hague can be further improved.”
In a statement to the news agency Beta, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus expressed satisfaction today with the news on the continuation of negotiations on the SAA between Serbia-Montenegro and the EU.
Labus explained that the continuation of negotiations is a result of additional guarantees provided by the Serbian government to Chief Prosecutor of the Hague tribunal Carla del Ponte.
Carla del Ponte received guarantees from the Serbian Prime Minister that the issue of full cooperation with the Hague tribunal will be resolved in a short period of time, said Labus.
