President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, that Serbia is consistent in respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all UN members.
Vucic pointed out that the violation of the UN Charter in the case of Serbia is a forerunner of the problems the world is facing today, adding that almost all major Western powers have brutally trampled both the UN Charter and Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council, denying and trampling on all those principles that they defend today, and that happened 24 years ago and also exactly 15 years ago.
According to him, for the first time, unprecedented in world history, 19 of the most powerful countries made a decision, without the participation of the UN Security Council, to brutally attack and punish a sovereign country on European soil, as they said, in order to prevent a humanitarian disaster.
Vucic noted that the illegal decision on the secession of the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia was made a full decade after the end of the war in our country.
He warned against the fact that today in Kosovo and Metohija, the southern province of the Republic of Serbia, violence is taking place against the Serbs by the separatist authorities of Albin Kurti.
The President of the Republic said that today double standards are being applied, whilst he nevertheless expressed his gratitude to the majority of UN members for whom double standards do not exist.
He emphasised that Serbia is grateful to all those who selflessly support our efforts to preserve territorial integrity, thereby confirming their adherence to the UN Charter.
Vucic reiterated that Serbia supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all UN members, stressing that respecting the UN Charter is not a choice, but an obligation.
He stated that Serbia is consistent in respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as all other UN members, adding that the selective application of that principle leads to significant divisions, a lack of solidarity and mutual understanding.
The President of the Republic said that the UN represents the last essential platform that brings us all together, regardless of all our differences and divisions.
I believe that commitment to peace and development, the desire to resolve disputes through dialogue, finding common ways to end people's suffering and ensuring a more prosperous and stable future are exactly what unites us, Vucic said.
According to him, Serbia therefore provides full support to all important reform processes in the UN, including the initiatives of the UN Secretary General, with the aim of further strengthening the role of this most important world organisation.
