By sectors, the processing industry rose in January 2006 by 1.8% against January 2005, production and distribution of electricity, gas and water fell by 1%, and ore and stone mining fell by 2.4%.
In January 2006 production of durable consumer goods was up by 21.8% against January 2005, capital goods production rose by 7% and non-durable consumer goods by 6.7%, while energy fell by 2.1% and intermediate products excluding energy fell by 4.4%.
Industrial production increased in January 2006 against January 2005 in 12 areas making up 44% of total industrial production, but there was also a decline in 17 areas which account for 56% of total industrial production.
Growth in January 2006 against January 2005 was influenced most of all by tobacco production, lifting and moving equipment, meat and meat products, processed and canned fruits and vegetables, and the production of furniture.
Negative influence on growth was made by production of elementary metals, chemicals and chemical products, coke and oil derivatives.
The deseasonalised industrial output index for January 2006 against the average of January 2005, shows a 1.1% overall industrial growth, and a growth of 2.4% in the processing industry.
The small and medium-sized enterprise sector production index is not included in regular statistic surveys and is based on a sample survey of 336 SMEs, and in January this year the required data was submitted by 76 companies. Total industrial production in January 2006, including SME output figures, fell by 14.5% and 23.4% in the processing industry, against last year’s average monthly output.
