Newly-appointed magistrates take oath

In the Serbian parliament today, newly-appointed magistrates took an oath before Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic.

Eight magistrates and three heads of councils dealing with misdemeanours took an oath, promising to abide by the Constitution and laws, perform their work conscientiously and impartially and protect the legal order in Serbia.
By recalling that it is mostly citizens who have contacts with magistrates, Stojkovic asked these representatives of law to increase their efficiency and promptness.
Stojkovic announced election procedures for magistrate courts and formation of a new network of courts for mid 2006, and pointed out that new work obligations await magistrates as of January 1, 2007, when a new law regulating that area will enter into force.
On January 26 the Serbian government appointed 11 magistrates.
