Speaking at a reception before the start of the EU Opportunity Week, organised by the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Brnabic emphasised that Serbia is in many ways already part of the single and common European space, adding that the EU is the largest investor in our country and the most important economic partner and financial donor.
The Prime Minister underlined that in terms of values, the positions of Serbia and the Union on all the most important political issues do not differ, and today the issue of the conflict in Ukraine is certainly the most important for the EU.
Serbia provides principled and sincere support to Ukraine, its territorial integrity and sovereignty. We always, at every moment, regardless of time, circumstances or actors, respect and defend the basic principle of public international law and the Charter of the UN - the inviolability of international borders of sovereign countries, members of the UN, she said.
We apply this principle to our country too, of course - and that's how we approach the dialogue with Pristina, said the Prime Minister, noting that peace is our greatest desire, our greatest interest and our first priority.
She made a plea to EU partners to help us preserve peace and to ensure that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija live without fear of daily torture, arrest, harassment and inhumane treatment and to secure at least the basic principles of the rule of law in the province.
Brnabic asked EU leaders to show that they stand behind the principle of the rule of law, i.e. full respect of international agreements, as well as to finally ensure, after more than 10 years, that the Brussels Agreement is implemented and the Community of Serb Municipalities established.
I am asking you, our dear friends from the EU, to help us preserve peace, because peace is the most important European achievement. In Belgrade, you will always have a reliable and credible interlocutor, the Prime Minister underlined.
According to her, Serbia has been intensively cooperating with the EU and its member states for a number of years to implement a comprehensive reform on the way to full membership in the Union.
Brnabic reiterated that full membership in the EU is our strategic foreign policy goal, and expressed her belief that the European peace project, represented by the Union, can be fully completed only with full membership of Serbia and other countries of the Western Balkans.
We are proud of the results achieved in the previous period in those reform processes, and grateful to our European partners for the help they provide us along the way, said Brnabic.
The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to the EU Delegation in Serbia for postponing the Europe Day ceremony after the tragic events in Vladislav Ribnikar Primary School, Dubona and Malo Orasje.
That in itself shows solidarity, and such a gesture means a lot to us, in the difficult times we are going through, the Prime Minister pointed out.
