The constitutive session of the Council for the Prevention of Peer Violence, chaired by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic was held today in the government of Serbia.
Brnabic emphasised that the goal of the Council is to achieve zero tolerance towards peer violence, noting that the Council will focus on achieving concrete results and taking concrete steps towards reducing peer violence.
Speaking about the national platform for the prevention and suppression of violence called "I Protect You", the Prime Minister reminded that from 19 May, through that platform, everyone, including teachers, students and parents, can report all types of violence involving children, and said that this platform integrates all the necessary aspects in one place.
The Prime Minister specified that all relevant institutions and entities from different areas are networked on it, as well as that anyone who has reported violence can follow the process of solving their case there.
Reports of violence can be anonymous, and the triage team processes the report of violence on the platform within five to seven minutes and forwards it to the competent institutions.
The coordination team for the "I Protect You" platform will report directly to the Council and inform members about reports of violence on the platform, the dynamics of their resolution, as well as sanctions for perpetrators.
At the session, it was underlined that the amendments to the Law on the Fundamentals of Education are being drafted, which include stricter penalties for children who commit violence and their parents, which, among other things, include easier removal from class and suspension of students during the disciplinary procedure.
Council members stated that it is necessary to encourage better communication between parents and children, because research has shown that a large number of students do not report violence even to their closest family members.
