This partial reconstruction of the crossing will result in a certain acceleration of the flow of vehicles and a reduction in the congestion at the border crossing.
The works are carried out as part of the Open Balkans Initiative, launched by President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic. The reconstruction of the crossing is one of the results of a memorandum signed between the government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the government of the Republic of Serbia, which contains measures to accelerate the movement of vehicles, people and goods across the state border.
The works that start today on the Macedonian side will start next week on the Serbian side of the border, and are expected to be completed in the first half of next month, before the start of the tourist season, and that, in addition to reducing congestion at the borders, will also facilitate trade between the two countries.
Namely, in the upcoming period, it is expected that measures for the recognition of certificates for weighing freight vehicles will be implemented between the customs administrations of the two countries, which will shorten the time for the implementation of customs formalities.
These measures will contribute to an accelerated flow at the Presevo-Tabanovce border crossing and a reduction in the costs of passengers and business entities, which will have a positive impact on international trade in the entire region.
All these are just a few examples of how the Open Balkans Initiative accelerates the flow of people, goods and services, and saves time for citizens and businesses when crossing state borders.
