In a statement for the Tanjug agency, Brnabic pointed out that the improvement of the economic relations between the two countries was discussed during the meeting, stating that the exchange of services between Serbia and Ireland increased by 32 percent last year and exceeded €500 million, primarily thanks to both countries’ strong IT sector.
We talked about how we can further build our cooperation on those bases and we agreed in principle to establish a cooperation mechanism for the development of the innovative economy and the exchange of knowledge. We called it the dialogue on innovative economy, she explained.
Brnabic assessed that she had a good meeting with Irish Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney, who was previously the Minister of Foreign Affairs and is therefore familiar with the situation in Serbia and the region.
In addition to economic topics, Coveney was also interested in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, but also in sanctions against the Russian Federation, the Prime Minister pointed out and added that she explained our position to her interlocutor, assessing that Ireland can understand Serbia’s status a little bit better than others in Europe due to its history.
The Prime Minister added that she had a useful meeting with representatives of the Industrial Development Agency of Ireland (IDA Ireland), which is a counterpart to the Development Agency of Serbia, which deals with attracting foreign direct investments and supporting domestic companies.
They create an ecosystem in that way, and that is what we can apply in some way in Serbia and see how our economy can grow even faster in that way, the Prime Minister pointed out.
She also met with General Manager of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Vehicle Engineering locations in Ireland and the United States John Cormican, to whom she extended an invitation to visit Serbia.
The Prime Minister stated that she presented to Cormican what Serbia has done so far in terms of research, development and use of artificial intelligence in the automotive industry.
