Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, continued talks today with deans of faculties in the natural sciences and mathematics group on reducing and modernising curricula, easing students’ workload, and identifying ways to increase prospective students’ interest in teaching professions.

Macut pointed out that, in order to improve the education process, it is necessary to optimise the scope of the curriculum and propose solutions to the shortage of teaching staff for certain subjects in primary and secondary schools.
The Prime Minister underlined that it is necessary to form working groups at the faculties, which would submit proposals and an analysis of student achievement standards and learning outcomes in specific subject areas by September, which would be followed by the formation of a mixed working group to consolidate and operationalise the proposed solutions.
The meeting highlighted the need to revise university curricula in order to encourage more prospective students to pursue teaching careers, while various proposals and ideas were presented on strengthening cross-curricular competencies.
Representatives of the Institute for the Improvement of Education and Training said that the implementation of programmes developed on the basis of the newly adopted standards is planned for the 2027/2028 academic year for students in the first and fifth grades of primary school and the first grade of grammar school.
