Speaking at a joint press conference with Sakellaropoulou, which followed a plenary meeting of the delegations of the two countries at the Palace of Serbia, Vucic said that, just as Greece supports our territorial integrity, Serbia also supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Hellenic state both on land and on water.
Expressing his gratitude to Sakellaropoulou for Greece’s clear support for the integrity of the Republic of Serbia and our European path, he pointed out that last year Serbia and Greece reached the maximum level of trade exchange of €788.5 million, with the belief that this year we will reach one billion euros.
The President said that he proposed to his Greek counterpart to organise an exhibition where a part of the great treasury of Hilandar would be displayed, which would be organised first in Belgrade and then in Athens.
According to him, the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which took place in 1879, will be marked next year, which speaks volumes about our tradition and our closest relations.
Vucic also said that, after the difficult period of the pandemic, Serbia expects to attract many investors from Greece, as well as that Serbian businessmen invest more in that country.
He said that the meeting also dealt with the energy connection in the coming years, with Serbia showing interest in purchasing certain quantities of liquefied gas in Alexandroupolis.
The President also informed his interlocutor about infrastructure projects and said that the Budapest-Belgrade-Skopje-Thessaloniki corridor is very important for us, while Piraeus and Thessaloniki are also important for cargo traffic, because access to goods by sea is cheaper.
Sakellaropoulou confirmed that Greece's position on Kosovo and Metohija remains unchanged and stable, and explained that Greece supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina aimed at normalising relations and finding a sustainable solution that will maintain stability in the area.
She recalled that Greece has always advocated the position that Serbia belongs to the European family, and once again expressed Greece's firm commitment to the need for Serbia to join the EU and to support the efforts that Serbia is making in that direction.
According to her, today's meeting confirmed the exceptional bilateral relations between Greece and Serbia at all levels, which have been stable and undisturbed for 150 years, and which show significant cultural, political and historical ties, as well as friendship that connects our two peoples.
The strategic character that Greek-Serbian relations have acquired is reflected in the joint declaration on strategic partnership, especially in the fields of energy, culture, tourism and defence. The mutual desire is to speed up the implementation of that declaration for the mutual well-being of our countries and the wider area of the Balkans, said Sakellaropoulou.
