Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with US Special Envoy for talks on Kosovo-Metohija Ambassador Frank Wisner.
Kostunica stressed the importance of decentralisation in Kosovo-Metohija and added that the province's multiethnicity was one of the key issues noted in the report from the Contact Group's ministerial meeting in London.
He reiterated that the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity is one of the key principles of international law and pointed out that the solution to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija should be sought within essential autonomy and in line with UN Resolution 1244. Kostunica explained that this would be the best way to preserve Kosovo multiethnicity as well as peace and stability in the region.
He said that UNMIK's obvious unpreparedness to solve the problem of electrical energy supply to Kosovo reflects how much pressure is being exerted on Serbs to leave the province.
Wisner agreed that decentralisation is one of the key issues and added that talks on this problem will begin in the second half of February.
