President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia and Azerbaijan have a lot in common and that by signing several agreements today, the two countries have raised cooperation and relations to a new level.
At the joint press conference with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, held after the signing of the agreement and the meeting of the delegations of the two countries, Vucic emphasised that Serbia is a reliable partner for that country.
He pointed out that our two countries have a lot in common, first of all, that they steadfastly protect their territorial integrity and that they help each other in the international arena, international institutions, respecting the UN Charter and international legal norms based on that document.
The President of the Republic said that during today's conversation, all important issues were discussed, including energy, because Azerbaijan is a superpower in the production and export of gas.
According to him, in seven to 10 years, Azerbaijan will export more than 35 billion cubic metres of gas, while today's export is 22 billion cubic metres, half of which goes to European countries.
That is why we are working on establishing an interconnector between Serbia and Bulgaria so that we can buy significant quantities of gas from Azerbaijan, he explained and added that the needs of the economy and households are growing, so greater energy security is needed.
Vucic added that other important issues were also discussed, such as the shortage of fertilizers, military-technical cooperation and the improvement of cooperation in the international arena.
He announced that in the next 20 days he will travel to Baku for a working visit, in order to continue discussions on important topics for us, adding that there will be more ministers in the delegation of our country in order to deepen the strategic partnership with concrete agreements.
Aliyev said that Serbia and Azerbaijan are strategic partners that cooperate in many areas, but also friends, and that Belgrade and Baku support each other when it comes to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries, underlining that this position is clear and will not change. nor in the future.
He pointed out that the signed cooperation documents represent a legal basis for the further development of relations, adding that Azerbaijan has rich gas resources, which play an important role in the energy security of many countries.
We will cooperate with friendly countries in the first place, not only when it comes to energy but in all areas, said Aliyev, pointing out that Serbia and Azerbaijan have always supported each other in the international arena.
The presidents of Serbia and Azerbaijan also signed a joint statement in which they confirmed common interests in deepening the strategic partnership between Serbia and Azerbaijan.
