Presenting a six-month report on the activities of the BIA at a session of the Serbian parliament's Committee on Defence and Security, Bulatovic said that only a possible wider escalation of violence in Kosovo out of control of international forces could have a negative influence on overall safety.
According to Bulatovic, in the past six months the BIA has focused its activities on collecting intelligence data on all the relevant security issues and other factors that might influence the talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as on collecting data on threats to Serbian and other non-Albanian population in the province.
In addition, the BIA has continually monitored both already existing and newly formed terrorist organisations and groups, said Bulatovic and added that the agency has offered its full support to the country 's top authorities in normalising the overall political and security situation in the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, where ethnic Albanians form the majority population.
Bulatovic pointed out that the agency managed to neutralise terrorist activities considerably and in that way create conditions for resolution of all contentious issues with political means.
"By monitoring the activities of extremist groups, we have noted that their focus has shifted to the public political scene because it provides handy cover for their activities", Bulatovic said.
"It has also been ascertained that owing to a booming number of supporters of radical Islamic organisations and movements and their increasingly well-organised activities in the region, the risk of terrorist activities is also greater", he warned.
Therefore, the level of safety has been improved in the region, he said, and this risk is now under control thanks to the BIA's operative engagement and cooperation with partner organisations.
According to Bulatovic, cooperation with other agencies in the region is of extreme importance, and it has resulted in several arrests of persons involved in organised crime.
He pointed out that the BIA is directly engaged in concrete affairs related to Serbia's obligations towards the tribunal in The Hague.
All activities of the BIA and its employees have been performed in line with the law, he concluded.
