The production and distribution of electricity, gas and water jumped 12.2 percent against last year's monthly average, with the processing industry, and ore and stone extraction dropping 6.8 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively. Energy production climbed 9.1 percent compared with the 2003 average monthly production. The production of intermediate goods declined 4.4 percent, durable goods 16.1 percent and other consumer goods 12.4 percent.
The industrial production in February fell in 18 sectors and increased in 11 sectors. The production of foodstuffs and beverages, and machinery and equipment (excluding electrical devices) fell significantly, while the production and distribution of electricity, gas, water and chemical products posted a rise against last year's monthly average.
Small and medium-sized enterprise sector production index is not included in regular statistical surveys and is based on a sample survey of 300 SMEs, the statement said, adding that only 120 SMEs have submitted their data for February. Total industrial production in February, including SME output figures, fell 3.7 percent against the 2003 monthly average production, with the processing industry decreasing by 7.2 percent.
