The agreement was signed by Mayor of Zrenjanin Simo Salapura, Managing Director of Metito Rami Ghandour and Director of public utility company “Waterworks and Sewerage Zrenjanin“ Predrag Bodiroga.
Brnabic underlined that the Serbian government helped to solve the decades-old problem with drinking water in the city of Zrenjanin in the only possible way and that is through public-private partnership.
According to her, the previous owner of the water production company was a private company so the government could not resolve this situation with its own funds.
The Prime Minister voiced hope that the citizens of Zrenjanin will get water that meets technical standards in the first quarter of 2023 and drinking water in the first quarter of 2024.
She explained that Metito purchased the existing plant for €3.5 million and that it will invest another €18 million in the project of providing clean drinking water for 95,000 inhabitants of the city of Zrenjanin.
Brnabic said that Metito will run the plant in the next 25 years and invest in it, after which it will become the property of the city.
The Prime Minister said that in parallel with this project the government will invest RSD 510 million in the repair of the water supply network and replacement of asebstos pipes in Zrenjanin so that the water that reaches the homes of the citizens is of the same quality as when it leaves the water factory.
