Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that 492 workers of Kragujevac factory Fiat, who were declared redundant, will receive severance pay by the end of the day.
In a televised appearance on Radio Television of Serbia, Brnabic said that everything was agreed on Saturday at a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and added that the state will continue to fight for all remaining workers.
The Prime Minister pointed out that she had talks with representatives of company Stellantis and that it is a joint wish that as many of the remaining 1,500 workers keep their job.
Brnabic also said that energy will be by far the most important topic on the agenda of the future government and added that in cooperation with the relevant faculties, the state is working on finding a solution on how to have as efficient consumption of energy products as possible.
The Prime Minister said that she had a meeting with representatives of the power utility service Elektroprivreda Srbije and faculties around ten days ago to discuss buying higher-quality, more expensive coal and mixing it with lignite in order to get more electricity from less coal.
Answering the question of how Serbia will lead its national policy in the times of crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, she pointed out that the caretaker government is trying to save the position of our country in the world in order to continue with economic growth, development and realisation of national projects.
According to her, the main goal of the Serbian government at this moment is to achieve a growth of pensions of 19.1 percent, two-digit growth of the minimum wage and salaries increase in the public sector, without the economy suffering, without the country’s public debt growing and keeping the country’s budget stable.
The Prime Minister underlined that Serbia conducts brave and smart politics, noting that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic decorated former prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe yesterday on St. Vitus’ Day.
She recalled that when Abe was prime minister of Japan, a large number of investors from that country came to Serbia and a wave of Japanese investment started, which brought us unprecedented credibility as investment destination.
The Prime Minister underlined that that is one of the ways in which Serbia builds a strong position and maintains friendships and partnerships in all parts of the world.
Brnabic stated that the situation is very difficult and tense at the global level, but that Serbia tries to maintain the position of independent decision-making.
