Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said that Serbia fully respects the right of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo to realise the highest level of autonomy as well as the right of Kosovo-Metohija, as a province, to have a significant influence on its social and economic life, and added that he expects the same respect for the rights of Serbia and its indisputable sovereignty and territorial integrity in Kosovo-Metohija.

“We must reach a compromise which will ensure equal respect for the rights of both sides,” said Kostunica in a statement to the Fonet news agency and warned that one-sidedness and imposition are not and cannot be solutions, only the cause of a greater problem with far reaching consequences.
According to Kostunica, the Albanians have already realised their right to self-determination by creating Albania and they cannot now, almost a century later, create another Albanian state on the territory of Serbia.
That would be an unthinkable precedent which would crush all the principles that lie in the basis of international law and stable European order, concluded the Prime Minister.
