At a press conference for Serbian journalists corresponding from Moscow, Draskovic said that Lavrov expressed satisfaction with the realism and precision of the plan, especially the fact that it is in line with the leading principles of the Contact Group.
Draskovic said that Russia represents one of the key members of the Contact Group. Thanks to the exceptional role of Russia in the formation of principles for talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, those principles are beneficial to Serbia-Montenegro.
He pointed out that it is exactly the Contact Group principles that will lead to a compromise solution on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija. Therefore, the length of the negotiating process will depend on the ethnic Albanian side.
If the ethnic Albanian majority shows reluctance to accept the recommendations of Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for assessment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija Kai Eide, that will only prolong the talks, Draskovic said and expressed conviction that the US will encourage political leaders in Kosovo-Metohija to accept a compromise.
Draskovic said that Belgrade has two essential aims – to ensure the protection of rights of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija according to the European standards and to secure respect of the current international status of Serbia-Montenegrin borders with Albania and Macedonia as defined in UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
